How can Liverpool Orthotics help with the treatment of Parkinson’s disease?

Drop foot - Drop foot is commonly associated with Parkinson’s disease. This is when the muscles in the lower leg are unable to lift the foot up when walking. This often causes trips, falls and poor balance. Liverpool Orthotics provide every available custom made and ‘off the shelf’ solution available for the treatment of drop foot.

Tremors - Liverpool orthotics provide custom made Lycra garments to aid the treatment of tremors. The Lycra helps to improve proprioception and can reduce the vigorosity of tremors to help enable better upper limb function for activities such as eating, drinking and typing.

Poor posture - Due to a mixture of muscle weakness and fatigue, Parkinson’s can cause poor posture of the spine. The most common posture is leaning forwards. Liverpool Orthotics provides a range of soft, semi rigid, rigid spinal braces to improve posture and enable individuals suffering with Parkinson’s to continue with a good quality of life.

Knee weakness - Muscle weakness in the knees can cause a lack of confidence when walking. Liverpool Orthotics provide knee braces that provide stability and support.

Foot pain - muscle weakness and fatigue can cause foot pain. Insoles are an effective treatment option as they can re align, correct and support the foot. Insoles can be designed to fit inside any commercial footwear and can easily be transferred from shoe to shoe.

Neck support - As the day goes on the muscles of the neck can become tired and individuals with Parkinson’s can find it challenging to support the weight of the head. Liverpool Orthotics provide a range of soft, semi rigid, rigid and assistive neck supports to improve head positioning and prevent painful neck aches.
