Orthotic Insoles

Liverpool orthotics provide a range 'off the shelf' and custom mades insoles that fit inside commercial footwear. Orthotic insoles apply forces to the foot to alter the alignment and control motion of the foot when standing, walking or running. They can be used to aid recovery following injury by offloading or providing support to targeted areas of the foot.

What conditions can orthotic insoles be used to treat?

Orthotic insoles can be used to provide treatment for a range of conditions, including:

  • Plantar fasciitis
  • Flat foot (Pes planus, fallen arch)

  • Neuroma
  • Heel spurs

  • Metatarsalgia

Do I require custom orthotic insoles?

At Liverpool orthotics we provide 'off the shelf' and custom made insoles. While 'off the shelf' products can be beneficial and have their place, they may not be suitable for all conditions. Custom made insoles provide us with better opportunity to strategically structure the insole so it conforms to the individual's foot shape producing highly effective results. The orthotist will be able to advise you on which type of insole would be most beneficial in the treatment of your condition.

Who can benefit from wearing insoles?

Almost anyone who is suffering with short term or long term foot and ankle pain could be considered for an insole assessment. Insoles can also be helpful to relieve stress in lower back, hips, knees and shins. It is common for athletes to wear insoles across a wide range of sports to reduce the risk of injuries occurring whilst competing and training.

How do you wear insoles?

Insoles are most commonly manufactured to be either full length or ¾ length of the foot and can be shaped and trimmed to fit comfortably into commercial footwear. Liverpool orthotics have a wide range of materials that we can select to ensure the insoles fits inside your own shoes while adequately providing enough support to help with your condition. Our insoles can be easily swapped from she to shoe.

How long will I need to wear orthotics insoles?

Insoles may be worn temporarily, until an injury has healed or on a permanent basis depending on the condition or reason for wearing the insole(s).

What is the process to receiving orthotic insoles?

The first step in the process is to attend an initial assessment with one of our orthotists. The orthotist will conduct a full physical examination of your lower legs including muscle strength tests, joint range of movement tests and check the strength of your ligaments and tendons. The orthotist will observe you walking and if necessary running.

Once your goals of treatment have been agreed a cast, impression or scan will be taken of your feet. Once the insoles have been manufactured the orthotist will organise a suitable fitting appointment. A follow up review appointment is made to ensure that your insoles are achieving the desired outcome.
